Illegal Fishing

Picture
Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Police and Environment Enforcement Officers, have been working in partnership to reduce illegal fishing along the River Trent. A typical day sees over 40 rod licenses checked.

The aim of the operation, as well as catching offenders, is to increase the visibility of police officers in rural communities. from the positive response from  anglers and the very low number of licence offences have been very encouraging for the team, which is already planning future operations on different stretches of the river and other sites which are popular with anglers.

"There is a common perception that rural crime is less significant than that occurring in cities and towns.  The impact of rural crime is just as serious as it is elsewhere which is becoming an increasing problem as austerity bites and as police resources are stretched thinner."

Paddy Tipping
Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner
